RACHELLE DOORLEY is an arts educator, community builder, and founder of the popular creativity blog Tinkerlab. She studied costume design at the University of California, Los Angeles, and worked on Hollywood films before finding her true calling as an arts educator. After teaching art in Los Angeles schools, Rachelle earned a master’s in arts education from Harvard, and then oversaw docent and education programs at the San Jose Museum of Art. Rachelle lives with her husband and her two curious daughters in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, where she leads workshops on visual thinking and hands-on creativity. I have somewhat followed the authors blog for a while now, but when I decided to purchase this book I thought it would just be a simple 55 projects. It is much more than that. With several variation to each of those 55 projects which appeal to young children as well as teen-age boys and adults, I was so very impressed as I read it cover to cover in one day. As an early childhood educator I feel it is difficult to find fabulous books such as this one, which has lots of appeal and some very creative projects with some unique spins on the variations. My seven year old is fascinated, as is my 22 year old son. Lots of great ideas for everything from making marks with crayons and markers but also delves into simple machines, robotics, electronics and some really unique hands on art experiences that are not widely published in the typical make and do books. Love the drawing machine that kids can construct with a simple motor, tape and markers, the geodes inside egg shells, the lava lamp, the photography ideas and the ideas to make art in nature (Which doesn't have to be permanent, still respectful, and fun even for others to enjoy after you're gone). My 7 year old's first project was the straw rockets, and he was hooked on this book. Fabulous ideas for the tiniest of tots to teachers who are not easily impressed, such as me. If I could give it 6 stars I would have. Beautiful photography and simple guidelines throughout the book make this the go to for many hours of fun, unplugged creativity well worth the cost of this great find! Well Done Tinkerlab!

This book gives me ideas for how to give my kids a fun childhood, and as we do the projects, I feel like I'm back in my own childhood!Cloud dough! Who would have thought it would feel SO good to play with oil and flour? Adding the essential oil in it is an extra bonus that will someday be a trigger for the memory. We'll smell lavender in 15 years and my son will say, "remember when we used to make cloud dough and I spilled it all over the floor and then dumped out even more when you went to get a towel?" Yes, I remember.

You’ve probably seen the pictures on Pinterest and maybe other social media, but perhaps didn’t realize the activities were Tinkerlab. What is Tinkerlab? Maybe you have heard about Tinkerlab classes or activity events in your area. What is the difference between Tinkerlab and loose parts? Minnesota even has Teen Tinker Lab events, and I’m sure events and classes are available in many states. If you want to know more, this book will make it easy to set up this kind of learning in your own home or classroom as a special event for for indoor recess. The book has 55 activities for children to explore their world with creative experiments with easy to find materials.

This book is AMAZING and has transformed my home into a child-friendly place to create and tinker. I tentatively set up a Tinkerlab in an area in my kitchen, and even though it takes up space, it is space well-used. What a valuable asset this is to our home! I like things to be tidy and organized, so I had to find a way to make this creative space work for my personality. I bought a three-tiered turquoise cart on wheels from IKEA, a customizable 3-door cabinet/TV stand from IKEA, and a variety of "Coloration" containers from the Container Store to house the materials. I also got a couple TV trays from IKEA to periodically set out "invitations" in a contained space. My kids (and I) are now constantly creating, and it looks neat and tidy after our project is complete.

This book is absolutely fabulous! I started integrating Tinkerlab activities into my kindergarten classroom this fall and I am loving the creativity this is inspiring in my students! Rachelle Doorley is such an inspiration! The ideas in the book are well laid out and easy to follow. I have gifted this book to a few friends also to use at home with their 3-6 year-olds and they have also been enjoying it. A great find and a lovely way to get kids thinking in creative ways regularly!

Tinkerlab is one of the first blogs I followed and it remains a constant source of inspiration. I'm thrilled to see Tinkerlab in print! The projects in this book cover a wide variety of subjects but the guiding premise, that kids should make and create, remains strong and clear. I love how Rachelle Doorley walks you through how to set up your home for creative success. I also enjoyed reading the essays from seasoned professionals in the educational and professional world. This book is not to be missed for kids and grown-ups who love to create and tinker!

Great little book with all sorts of creative ideas to keep toddlers busy! I love all the beautiful pictures, as well, though it makes me wish I had a more artistic eye and space in my house for these kinds of activities. =) There are suggested adjustments to the "experiments" for the younger toddler crowd, and my 2½ year old daughter has been enjoying various projects from this book for the last 6 months since I bought it!

I love this book. There are instructions for specific activities to set up and do with your children, but more valuable to me are the general guidelines and encouragement offered on how to create a home where creativity can happen authentically and spontaneously.

More times that I want to remember I had tough questions that I didn't knew how to answer them, and I lost the opportunity to get a great job.I was frustrated, upset because I didn't knew how to prepare myself ahead of my interview so I could answer in a natural way these kind of questions.If you want to get your dream job, take the time to read this book, it will help you to know how to answer the hardest questions in an honest way so you can get the job that you want.

Most of the "tough" questions did not apply to me so it was kind of a waste for half of it. It is clear that she is knowledgeable on the subject but I disagree with some of her answers. Still, if you have some rough items on your resume' or job application, like being fired on your last job for misconduct or having a conviction on your record this can be a big help to you.

I notice that she repeated quite a few interview questions in this book. These particular questions were worded the same as the original question. Other than that, I learns that the questions were geared toward my professional behavior, how I react to stressful situations, and how well I get along with other people.

Awesome approach to interviewing that takes so much guess work out of this exhausting and tedious process. The author gives solid advice that is transferable.

It's a very good book which explains what the employer really means asking different personal/behavioral questions. I think this book alone might be sufficient to prepare for personal/behavioral interview questions. I read some online resources before reading this book, so I cannot tell for sure, but it definitely covers most possible questions.

Eye opener for me. I should have read this before but better late than never! It explains how the questioner is thinking so you say what he/she is looking to hear.

I highly recommend this book. It has a multitude of helpful suggestions for the interviewer. I used this book to prepare for face to face interviews. After reading the book I felt truly prepared for any type of interview question. I understood what information the interviewer was trying to gather from the question and how to to respond to present myself in the best possible manner. I landed a job using this book and I will refer back to it throughout my career. Great resource!

What an amazing book!Im not a believer of diets or drastic changes in you eating habits. That only means temporary change=body harm.Im a 31 y/o. No kids. Married. With a 7:30-5:00 job. A 40 min commute. And a fitbit watch to try to achieve at least 8,000 steps a day. In other words, Im kinda normal.I always was underweight. My ideal weight used to be 106-110. Im only 5ft. When I turned 26 my weight started to change due to bad eating habits. I went to 125, then 135 and finally 145. I started watching what I was eating about two years ago, but loosing that extra weight hasn't been easy.As per my primary doc, my ideal weight for my height and age should be 115-125. I dont know how to achieve that!I do not consume sugars/sweets because I simply dont like them. My weakness is beer and buffalo wings. I dont eat salty either, it became a habit after my dad got a heart surgery about ten years ago.My breakfast is usually tea with crackers, for lunch I like soup, and dinner varies. But I think dinner is what kills me. For the most part I cook a typical Hispanic meal: rice, beans, and some sort of meat. But when I don't cook, hubby and I just order food (pizza or Chinese).For about two years now, my weight hit the 130-135 mark. I have not been able to weight less than that.I decided to give this book a try not to achieve my ideal weight, I gave up on that a while ago. But to cleanse my system which I think is something I truly need.In just four days I already feel the difference: Im sleeping so much better. I have so much energy and somehow, Im always happy (Im like that famous grumpy cat, so a happy face is abnormal in my case haha).Giving up meats is not a challenge (I was vegetarian for about three years, until I developed rashes and a weak inmune system). Im not that much into dairy. Fruits are the love of my life. I love bread, but I can survive without it; same with pasta. But the beer??? Oh my! I love my beer at night. Yet, I have not missed it. Im fine without it ;)Weird craving Ive been having is salt. However, I love pickled veggies, so I guess thats where the craving comes from.What makes this program easy is that you are not deprived from eating at all. If you feel hungry you get to eat any veggies or fruits of your choice. You also get to eat hard boiled eggs, which I never ate those many before in my life hahaha. They are filling and very nutricious. The book does not mention a limit on eggs. I did some research and an average of 4-6 a day is completely healthy. I'm having three a day. I also snack on fruits and veggies that are not part of the smoothy of the day, that way I do not loose motivation.I am not doing the salt-water flush. Not my thing.! I will let my body do everything on its own. Im not adding sweetners either, but thats just because as I said before, I dont like sweets. Im drinking plenty of water which I always have, and a bought a variety of detox teas to switch flavors.Lastly, pretty much all my ingredients are organic. Ive been buying organic for years now. And I am not adding any protein to my smoothies. I rather to get that protein from organic eggs.I will update this post with more results. My experience is a good one. I completely suggest you try this program. The only side effect I experienced was a little rash by my lip. It went away in half hour and it happened on my first day. Another thing Im experiencing is something like hot-flashes hahaha... I just wake up sweating and with my body tempeture up. But I dont feel like is something bad. Maybe the sweat is the way my system is cleansing.By the way, I decided to take pics everyday. I want to see the difference my self. No filters used, filters dont cheat others but yourself! And, I decided to use the same outfit when taking the pictures so that the results are hopefully, more visible.Good luck trying the program!2/4/16UpdateHello everyone!I am sorry for not updating this post earlier. Believe it or not, I couldnt figure out how to do it + Im a busy girl.So, I uploaded all other pics.Since a succesful end to my cleanse, I have continued with the modified version (2 smoothies and a HEALTHY meal).My total loss was 10 pounds and I continue to be at 125. 125 is perfect in my case given my height and age. However, I am thinking about doing the cleanse again soon; not to lose weight, but to get rid of xmas/new yrs/vacation toxins :)I have to admit that my eating habits completely changed. I continue to crave fruits and veggies on a daily basis. To me that is the most interesting part of all. I continue to indulge on buffalo wings and beer over the weekends and my results continue to be the same. By The way, on the weekends I rarely drink smoothies; I eat 2-3 meals and feel just fine. However, and once again, my meals are healthy. I kinda became a pesquetarian, all I eat is fish and lots of veggies.On another note, I gave a try to three different things mentioned in the book: sea-salt water flush (I add a lime to it to make it easier to drink) and oh my if I recommend it, it makes me feel digestively clean :). I also bought Mag07 and wow! JJ Smith is right about those pills, is a great way to stay regular and help your digestive system stay healthy. Finally, I did the liver cleanse (8oz water and 2tbs apple cider vinegar) and my waist has gotten thinner.I continue to go to the book all the time. I get recipes from there, and I just go back to her various tips.Since, I bought another book with hundreds of green smoothie recipes. I like JJ Smith's recipes better because are less sweeter, but nonetheless, the other book helps me keep up with my routine too.I developed a method: Once a month I get a shopping list ready. I separate all recipes on ziploc bags and freeze them. The night before I take them out and done! I waste no time making my daily dose of health.I also bought a Ninja blender. Mine was a small one and I had to make a smoothie at a time (no time for that in the am). Im totally in love with my new blender because I make 2-3 cups of the same smoothie at once.Feel free to ask me questions.I continue to recommend the book. Im also very active in JJ Smith's twitter account because the program worked like a charm in my case. I love my new eating habits and how I feel in general, and thats all thanks to JJ Smith.Last note: people constantly compliment me on my skin and hair, people do notice my weight loss, and people continue to talk about how cheerful I am most of the time which I find hillarious given how grumpy I am ha!Best of luck to those considering the cleanse.

Today is July 3rd and I'm on day 4 of the 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse and I am almost 10 pounds down. I want to lose at least 30-50 pounds. I am a naturally curvy woman and have never been overweight. I gained weight over the last few years because I wasn't eating enough and my metabolism was very very slow. I've never been much of a big eater, but I am Southern and from Louisiana and our food consists of rice and other thick gravies which can cause weight gain if you're sedentary. I didn't have the energy to move around like I did when I worked, so I gained weight. Anyway, I decided to start walking 10,000 steps a day and because I have anemia and hypothyroidism I decided to try the modified version of the 10-Day Green Smoothie Cleanse and was shocked! In only 4 days I am down a dress size! I don't look at the scale much since sometimes we lose inches and not pounds, but I feel amazing. My energy is through the roof and I feel like I'm 21 though I just turned 41. I love the group on Facebook and I love the book! It's very easy to follow and you won't be hungry. If you can make it past the first 48 hours, you can do all 10 days with ease. This book is very informative and it has great smoothie recipes. Best of all, the approved foods to start the cleanse is very affordable. I'm now doing 100 jump squats a day in addition to exercising daily and doing cardio 3 days a week. JJ has a 30 day squat challenge and I already do 100 squats a day. Doing jump squats and sumo squats has me feeling amazing. I cannot wait to see what my 10 day results will be. This is not a diet, it's a lifestyle. I will try my best to eat this way forever. I was tired of pills, teas, and diets that didn't work. I'm so grateful to JJ for sharing this with the world.
