This book was one of the best resources i came across for naturals and I don't regret it one bit! Fun and reader friendly prose shows the author really knows her audience. I read it cover to cover when it arrived and though most of the information I could find online , the locs section was particularly helpful. I'm not ready to loc, but the author did a great job detailing the cost in terms of time and money of each of the (apparently) many ways of locing . The book was worth buying for this section alone , but i was pleased to find lots of great additional tidbits.There were times where things seemed a bit clustered and pictures would have been helpful but still I highly recommend this book to anyone going natural!

Lonnice has charm, wit and intelligence which comes bursting through the pages of this little book. While I am definitely in favor of chemical free hair (that means no chemical texturizing either) you can still use a lot of the info in this book. I have found that texturizing can be done naturally by cornrowing or twisting your hair. See Pamela Ferrell's book about this subject matter. I think you should include this book in your library as a reference guide because it does have some goods tips, especially about conditioning your hair. Some of the products can't be found anymore but hey there are others that can be substituted and as long as you understand the concept Lonnice is trying to convey who cares what the product is called, just do it.

Written years ago before the passionate revolution of natural hair gurus came along, Plaited Glory introduced me to two-strand twists and cute natural hairstyles. It gave me confidence to begin considering being permless and I was soon off on my own hair journey. A true classic in every sense.

I'm thankful to find any information on natural hair care. I'm in an area where there are very few people into natural hair. I work in Corporate America and have been using extension twists and wigs while my hair grows out. This book along with "No Lye" gave some useful information about products to use and how to create your own. It would be nice if step-by-step styling techniques were included too. I have found some "locing" products with things like Shea Butter and wonder if their use is discouraged like petroleum-based products.

The book is very good. I really loved her first book; it got me startedon my natural hair journey. I didn't like this book as well because I don't wear braidedstyles. However, I would highly recommend this book to those who love to wear braided,locked, or other protective hair styles.

I thought it was a funny and cute book, but overall it was not what I expected. My hair has been natural so I did not find the book too helpful. It was a nice read but if you are looking for a hair bible this is not it. This book is helpful only if you are unsure about going natural and would like to hear stories of another woman's hair story.

Fabulous book for those who have just gotten their Young Living Starter Kit! Not only does this book walk you through ways to use the starter kit, it also focuses in on using oils as a compliment to a heathy, natural lifestyle. Other Young Living products are introduced in an easy-to-read way. The book is full of fabulous information that makes using oils easy and part of your every day life.Ten challenges are issued throughout the book to get new oilers using their oils and understanding more about them. The book says it will walk you through using oils in 2 hours and it did just that. I timed myself and it took less than 90 minutes to read. I love that it provides quality information without being overwhelming.Thanks, Sarah, for breaking things down in a managable way for those who are delving into the world of oils! I've been looking for something to put in the hands of my members who aren't using their oils or who have gone inactive. These people are either overwhelmed or haven't taken the time to learn, they won't come to classes or are too far away and some aren't online. I've tried reaching out, I've tried online classes and videos. They are just people I think(hope) need something in their hands they can easily flip through at soccer practice or while waiting for their kids to finish school or sitting on the couch one evening.I've been following Sarah since I read her Gameplan book and was excited to see her posts about Fearless. After reading it all I can say is it is fabulous! I *think* it might be exactly what I've been searching for.It's short, but packed with information. She challenges them to do simple things and start making them habits.I think every single member of my team would benefit from this book. I can't count the number of people who have told me they are nervous about using their oils wrong or are overwhelmed by all the information in the pocket reference or who just haven't had the time to open their box and figure it all out. This book may be little, but it packs a punch. I promise you won't be sorry you got it and shared it.

One of my favorite parts is her 10 challenges that coincide with all of the information she shares. It gives readers a chance to try her advice. This is an amusing little book about one man's efforts to build himself a study in a free-standing hut in the woods. Like Botany of Desire, this is a rather quirky and unusual premise to base a book on, but again, he carries it off well.If you are interested in learning some architectural history, and something about general carpentry while being entertained, this is a nice find. Pollan has a very entertaining and engaging writing style.

This book is not for everyone. Michael Pollan does not leave out any details in building a small house in the woods. The book doesn't overwhelm you exactly; it beats you down until you nearly give up. If you don't surrender, and if you have any interest at all in learning how to do something you know nothing about, and if you care about doing something right, you need to read almost anything by Michael Pollan. I fell under his spell with his opening salvos in "The Omnivores Dilemma," a book that helped start a revolution in food quality and that leads to the corruption that begins with factory farming clear through sales and promotion excesses to the grocery stores and pretended government oversight. I don't think it is overblown to write that some Americans and possibly myself would be in a nursing home or six feet under except for Pollan. So if you are planning or just thinking about building something and want it to stand the test of time, read "A Place of My Own." Actually, you can learn a lot from Pollan whether you are going to build anything or not. There is a way of looking at things that may be in decline today but that can result in infinite value. Pollan can show you how to do this. Also, you can join me in wondering why he didn't show us a photo of the completed structure.

Pollan drives nails. Nice memoir of building a private writer's space.I do like his skewering of the modern and pos-modern architects. As he seems to have some especial scorn for Philip Johnson, I recall reading elsewhere that Johnson was notorious for never designing a window that didn't leak.And irony of ironies, Pollan found himself confronted with inadequate construction drawings of the windows, and an architect with no real idea of how to design an inward-opening awning window that didn't inherently leak. One thing that does stand out, from a perspective of years after the project was completed was that Mr. Pollan and his architect put a higher value on the visual and aural aesthetics of an uninsulated shingle roof than on the winter habitability of the workspace.

An interesting premise of the building a "writing shed" for the author. The details and thoughts that actually involved this part were fascinating and certainly well written. On the other hand, the loong wanders off into the obscurities of architectural philosophy were not for me.

I remember in high school hearing about the eccentricities of Walden and rolling my eyes. This book has helped me see why that book has held such a strong place in the zeitgeist... and yes, makes me want to build my own little place in the woods.I really appreciated how Pollan went into some of the architectural history and theory - although at one point I just wanted to shout at him to just get up off of his duff and DO something rather than reading about doing something! And then only a few paragraphs later, he made fun of himself for that very thing, and went and actually started with the doing. Pretty handy, that! Wish it always worked that way for me, the things I could do...The book really has 3 main characters - his architect friend/mentor, his contractor/mentor, and Pollan. The book spends an awful lot of time on the struggle between architects and contractors, and Pollan's place stuck between the two of them... and his gradual acquisition of knowledge and confidence, which allows him to make decisions outside of the blueprints.I read this book on audiobook, so it was solidly built out of imagination. I imagine that the book itself has drawings or illustrations - and see, even just looking at the cover shows me what the finished product looks like, and darn that little hut looks cute and snug! - which would help give it shape mentally... but actually that may have helped me a bit. I rewound and relistened in some parts to try to figure out what he meant when describing building details, and I don't know that I would have thought so hard about it if it had been diagrammed.That said, is this the Omnivore's Dilemma? Nope, not by a long shot. But if I had never read OD, I'd have given it 5 stars, so that's what I'm doing here. (maybe OD should get an imaginary 6th star, to make it fair to every other book?)This was just a really enjoyable book, and it's subtly altered how I look at buildings around me. Worth the reading, definitely.

This book will very much appeal to the DIY crowd because we've all faced the dilemmas that Mike does...from idea, to planning, tools and searching for competent advice and help. Self-effacing humor is Mike's key to the door to his 'place.' As an avid planner and builder in my spare time, I enjoyed all the foibles and fables that unfold as the plot becomes a place.

A terrific book. I loved it. I’m going to read everything by him.

My kids are obsessed with these books and with bears. Definitely a win win with this one! We paired it with Disneys documentary about Bears, our WWW game, and a few print offs from Teachers Pay Teachers and we had one super fun day! Books are short and to the point! My kids love them!

My first grader loves these books. So do I, for that matter. Full of interesting, little known facts set up in a format that especially little boys will love. There are lots of big words, so these are meant to be read to younger children by an adult.

My daughter loves this book so much! It has a lot of good science. My daughter enjoyed reading this book. It is a good book!

The Who Would Win books are my absolute favorite of all time! They make learning about each animal more relevant by comparing the two and then save the "fight" for the end (which is tame, don't worry). My 3 and 5 year olds love these books and we do too!
