Bought this for young nephews. Read it first though. Fun and informative.

I bought this book for my grandson when he was four (he's now nine) and he just called to tell me that it is his "all time favourite book". He has just become a Cub Scout and was asked to bring his favourite book to the next meeting and this is the one he chose. His father loves fishing, camping, boating and working outdoors whenever he gets a chance. My grandson seems to be following in his footsteps and the Buck Wilder books are perfect for him. The pages contain a myriad of pictures and information, well drawn and thought out so that there is something of interest and new to be discovered from the age of four to whenever?? I (and my grandson) highly recommend this book and the others in the series for your boys and I'm sure that girls would like them too if they love nature and the outdoors.

I bought this for my son for his birthday. He is obsessed with fishing and LOVES this book. The pages are so colorful and there are all kinds of neat hidden little words all over the drawings. He is six years old and it is one of the few books he will actually sit down with on his own!

This is a kids book with great pictures and a couple of short paragraphs on each page. Very easy to read but each of those paragraphs is full of good information. They describe the fish to you, tell you where it likes to hand out in the water, what kind of bait to use and if it hangs out in schools. What more does a person need to fish? It also has a page that shows you how to bait your hook. It is a good kids book but as a novice fisher person I found it very interesting. Great book.

I bought this for my seven year old grandson for his birthday. It is just as advertised. I am sure by spring, he will know what fish he wants to try to catch, what lures and bait is needed, and where to go to find the fish he will be seeking. It is written so both his parents and himself can read and understand what they need to know about fishing. It is the next best thing to being able to take him out fishing myself, which is not possible for me. Thanks Tom Evans

This is another in the Buck Wilder series that entertains young readers. Our reader is 6 and absolutly loves these books! They never tire of finding new items on the pages of these books and return to them often.

My son loves to fish, but he never got into these books. They are cute and silly with a handful of facts. Just not something that needs to be re-read.

I am interested in this style of painting and wanted a resource to study. The illustrations are lovely and a good representation of the originals. Having seen some Zurbarán originals in Barcelona, I wasn't disappointed. My book is used but in great condition and the price was right.

Spanish Still Life is the catalogue that accompanied a National Gallery, London, exhibition of 1995. To be honest, I've mostly skipped the text in favor of dropping my jaw (check out Juan Sanchez Cotan) in response to the images, which prove how important and radical a genre still life was from 1600 through Goya (1746-1828). There is plenty here to fuel the fires of romantics, painters, photographers, logicians, dreamers, minimalists, environmentalists, animal activists, and those enamored with the domestic sphere. Still life, in this age, was not humble. It was intimate, political, religious, intellectual and incredibly visceral. I missed the show, but I have the book. Small comfort, perhaps, yet I would rescue this book from a burning house.

I saw this exhibit and think of it often. The only memento I have is this catalog and I'm so glad I do. The earliest paintings have such a modern feel to them that it's hard to believe they were painted while Shakespeare was still writing. Glad I don't have to spend $250 for it.

About the Author

Tamara Bower has been creating art all her life, encouraged by her mother, an artist. Ms. Bower first became interested in ancient Egypt at age ten, checking out every book on the subject in her school library.She learned archaeological illustration at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and later drew pictures for the Egyptian Department of the Brooklyn Museum of Art. She has assisted many scholars and worked on-site at excavations in Egypt, Turkey, Spain, and California. I am always looking for sourcebooks for my research/writing, and I stumbled across this gem while looking for something else. The author's credentials are impeccable - trained at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (one of the foremost sponsors of digs in Egypt) worked with the Brooklyn Museum's Egyptian division... Her bibliography is excellent.Having gotten that out of the way, let me say that this is a charming story, told with humor in the fashion of an ancient (Egyptian) text. The Prince of Egypt has heard of the fighting women and has come to see what they are like. The Queen of the Amazons sends her young sister as a spy and then decides to fight the prince face to face.They fight, they realize that each is worthy of respect and admiration - and they fall in love. Delightful!The illustrations are wonderful, whether or not you are familiar with ancient Egyptian art. The notes on the text and the illustrations are interesting, and even a child would be interested to learn that the collection of symbols forms the prince's name, and that the archer running away with his bow over his head and one hand stretched out behind him is trying to surrender.All in all a delight to own!

Strong women, battling men, first at war, and eventually in love. Loosely based on real-life ancient history, this book is a feast for young imaginations with glimpses of past Assyria (the modern day Middle East), Egypt, and hieroglyphics. The book is educational as well as entertaining.A fairly short book that won't overwhelm younger children (artistically stimulating for the pre-reader), but also keeps us old folks visually engaged.

This story is an ancient tale with a modern sensibility. Two great leaders, a prince and a queen, who do not know much about each other at first, rise to battle each other, then learn to respect each other and join forces. It's a great story of adventure, empowerment and acceptance, beautifully told with Tamara Bower's rich, colorful, hieroglyphic style paintings. This is a great book for anyone who likes Egyptian art and classic storytelling.

Most of the songs are a fair treatment. The music is sometimes an inaccurate transcription of the melody; you'll sometimes play a note that fits the chord of the song; but not what the lead singer sang. Some portions of the song may be left out because they were not sung by anybody. A good example of this is Yellow Submarine. I believe the lyrics says something like "...the band begins to play" followed by a comical, bouncy tune in 6/8 time. This book does not have that part.To play these like The Beatles' sang them, listen to the original and copy their style. Learn to sing the songs with the Beatles, then play the songs out of this book with the same rhythm and notes, which will occasionally be different from this book. Too bad the transcriptions are not in the same key as the originals so you can play along because they were not transcribed for B flat trumpet.

Huge selection from the Beatles catalogue and all tunes are easy to moderate to play. So far I've been enjoying this book.

Has some variations to original songs, but they are easy to play as far as range and the 'keys' they are written in. There are a lot of songs in this booklet.

There is a large range of skill levels so you can grow into the book...That being said it is designed for beginner / intermediate players...I have the trombone version so I can play tunes with my Granddaughter...

Grandson loved this! He is 11 and just starting his 3rd year of trombone. It arrived on time and in super condition.

But don't bother if you plan to hike the Deerfield Valley - there is really only two (maybe three) routes in what is known as southern Vermont's hikers' paradise.But if you plan on hiking around the Connecticut River Valley, this guide may be just the thing for you. It includes detailed information on flora, fauna, and even some historical and archeological information. Well worth the price, no matter where you plan to hike.
