A great way to rediscover New York City.

This is an incredibly useful guide to the many museums all over NYC. I have lived here a long time and didn't know about most of these places. It is extremely well written and entertaining. The visuals are wonderful. It contains tips on what else to do in the area around the actual visit to the museum. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get to know NYC better, either as a tourist or native. Bravo!

Heading into my dissertation proposal, this was required for one of my classes. Very easy to read. Relevant examples and case studies make connecting with the content simple. Worth every penny. Should be required reading for every teacher and administrator, regardless of grade level or subject matter, school SES, etc.

I love the case studies this author offers in each chapter--they are shocking and real-life. The book is an easy read, and I, for one, dislike reading about data. It made the data class I took actually enjoyable (can't believe I'm saying that).

As expected. But I was not impressed with this book for the class I purchased it for. It has basic knowledge and seems like common sense for anyone in the field.

I had to have this book for my Master's course in leadership. Easy to understand, thought provoking, and clearly a must read for all educators. Reflective summaries at the end of each chapter, and study guides online through Pearson. Great tool for professional development on sight.

As the wife of an Iraq War veteran, I bought this for my children. However, the author has a very clearly liberal point of view. He/She blames Bush for nearly everything and declares Obama to be the hero of the day. A segment reads, " So be like President Obama and be smart enough to leave when it is time." If you hold a very liberal viewpoint and have little first hand information about the war, you will probably identify with this book. If you do not hold a liberal viewpoint or have first hand experience with combat in Iraq, you will most likely find many problems with the authors conclusions which are stated as facts, not opinions. In the end, I was very disappointed. As a teacher in public education, perhaps we should just teach our children facts and keep away from trying to teach them political ideologies - whether they be left leaning or right leaning. Because of this, I would not recommend KidCaps books of any sort, and it is odd that I could not find an author attached to this book.

I thought this was a great read. I actually purchased this to read myself and I am 26. I am no expert of the conflicts in the Middle East and I wanted a quick over view before I got into more heavy readings about the Iraq war. I feel that the author did a excellent job keeping the text brief and decoding president Bush's speeches and motives for the Iraq war.

My son is 9 years-old. He loves reading anything about wars - he especially liked this one because he could identify with the viewpoint. The language was good, also, for a 9 year-old.

In her historical sagas such as 'The White Queen' and 'The Red Queen' and her Tudor works, women and gender relations are centre stage. In 'Earthly Joys' women's position is not neglected, but we are drawn into the life of a man whose loyalty to his master and a hierarchial way of looking at the world are examined.The novel did not resonate with me as immediately as Gregory's female centred works. However, Tradescant's period with William Cecil introduces the reader to the political wisdom of Cecil and Tradescant's own views as well as the development of Cecil's garden and, even his need to concur with his master, the king, when forced to relinquish his estate. With Cecil's death Tradescant acquires a very different type of master, and Gregory explores this period with with great sensitivity. Tradescant's last master, the king, comes into his life when he is beginning to question his adherance to hierarchy, echoing some of the views of his son, J.Elizabeth and Jane Tradescant, wives to John and J, present alternative views to John, and the usual feminist strand of Gregory's works is drawn through Frances, his grand daughter.The Kindle version of the novel suffers from poor editing. I is often used instead of J for John's son and this is disconcerting. However, despite this flaw, I was keen to read to the end and to reconsider my initial reluctance to become embroiled in a man's life instead of those of the female protagonists so familiar in Gregory's novels.

Describes the Stuart monarchs through the eyes of a landscaper. Not comfortable with the descriptions of the homosexual activities, but did learn some things about George Villiers, King James, King Charles I, and other notables of that time

I love Phillippa Gregory, but I did not like this book. She introduced an entirely unhistorical sexual preference for the major charcter that was conjecture only. Without the unnecessary fiction, it was an interesting book

Tremendously enjoyable. Great to read Philippa Gregory with a male central character. Her knowledge of gardening, the history of garden styles in Europe and their evolution as the culture changes are marvelous. Rich characters and, as usual, awesome detail and style. Really excellent book. Read it.

Read in conjunction with Virgin Earth. A story of life during these times Cromwell/Charles, through the eyes of Royal gardeners, their trials and tribulations and struggle to remain loyal to the Court at the same time remaining true to their own values. Most enjoyable read. Their deep love and understanding of plants is the backbone of these two books.

I always have trouble with historical fiction because I like to know what is fact and what is fiction. Consequently, I hauled out books of the his History of England during the reigns of George the First and his son Charles and lo and behold fact and fiction matched. Even the main character, whom I had considered fictional, turned out to be the real gardener to those in power--in fact there are flowers named after him. So...history became more real to me thanks to Philippa Gregory's engaging fiction.

This work is a detailed, character-driven charmer about a veritable host of love relationships including parent /child, brother/ sister, friend/friend, sweetheart/sweetheart, spouse/spouse, God/Creation and almost everything in between. It is most definitively Christian in orientation but does not "preach" to readers, rather shares the values in the characters' experiences and relationships. It is exceptional in those very characters who meet life's circumstances and challenges with faith, hope and true and sincere love. The reader is asked to invest in those to glean the jewels of the book. The pace is measured and requires patience and thought to succeed. There is no force-fed action-fest here. A reader unwilling to make such investment might possibly rate this one boring. However, the exact opposite is true for those willing to settle in and invest some consideration. You may, for instance, experience a walk through a totally foreign culture where life is vastly different and the real riches are of the heart and not of the hand. If so, enjoy !!!

I love Lori Wick's stories, the. Characters are strong believable. I always learn the spiritual lessons right along with the characters. This story is about a man who has set himself above the members of his own family in order to fit in with the foreigners he is ministering to. In the end he has an awakening and life for his Lily is mended. A love story with heart.

Good book

I re-read this book about three times a year. I love the relationships between Gabe and his family, and between Lily and Gabe, and Lily and Ling-li. There are great examples in parenting and in dealing with difficult people. I highly recommend this book.

I am a huge fan of Lori Wick's work. I have read them all (more than once), and this is one of my favorites. Realistic characters and story line. Interesting to think about the differences between cultures. Loved it!

Another high score for Lori Wick!! The first book I've read by her was The Knight and the Dove and I was instantly hooked. Lori Wick sets the bar high for Christian Fiction novelists everywhere. She has reminded me on so many occasions of how I should submit myself to our Heavenly Father.With her added romance, I can never put her books down! I highly recommend this book to you :) It keeps your mind open and your heart filled over every turn of the page. I'm not going to explain the book, you'll just have to find out for yourself! Hopefully I proved you right! :)

Bamboo and Lace was a good book, however, I (at times) found it boring and felt that the summary on the back of the book seemed more exciting than the actual book! The second time I read this I found more depth and I appriciated the story more. But I still disliked that Lily was in some ways, naive, immature? I understand that Wick is trying to make Lily seem sheltered, but sometimes it just makes her look stupid. This is definately a novel for more mature readers, not people looking for an adventure entertwined with romance. This is a good read, just be ready for a fairly predicatable plot.

An outstanding book which combines history with practical techniques for creating your own G&G style furniture. Peart is truly an outstanding craftsman and now an author/historian. Excellent photos and ideas...and some plans.This is an update of my review....and I wish 6 or 7 stars were possible. The reason is that I just finished a Greene & Greene TV cabinet where I used several of Darrell Peart's techniques and the results were unbelievable perfection but yet made two tasks which I always dreaded as "easy as pie". Here is more detail.Peart's sections on "Machining the Breadboard Joint" and "The Ebony Spline" taught me how to perform these tasks to perfection. I have done quite a few Greene & Greene pieces of furniture over the past 8 years but I always dreaded these two challenges because of the breadboard ends being proud to the top. After reading and then trying Peart's techniques (which were very well written and illustrate), I asked "Why didn't I think of this?"For any woodworker who loves Arts & Crafts, Craftsman, and Greene & Greene styles, Peart's book is a MUST for your workshop and will teach you exactly how to perform woodworking tasks needed in these style with ease and perfection.I thank Darrell for taking the time to publish this book.

The book provides a nice background on the Greene brothers and the Hall brothers (the ones that brought the Greene designs to fruition). What follows is a description of their major projects as well an excellent description of their design elements and the process of how these were used in their furniture. If you are planning on building any Greene & Greene style furniture, this is the book to buy. Darrell Peart has done an excellent job putting this book together. His understanding and skill at designing and building furniture in the Greene and Greene style are par exellence. You can see examples of his work at (...)If you are interested in viewing another book showing not only furniture designed by Greene and Greene, I highly recommend 'Greene and Greene Furniture, Poems of Wood and Light' by David Mathias. This does not cover the building of furniture, but shows many examples of furniture as well as the houses the design elements of several of their houses.

If you are a fan of this movement then you should have this in your library! Very detailed descriptions and insights.The author does a fantastic job showing key details in the Greene's amazing furniture. I found the chapter on Mr. Peartsown woodworking to be very informative and stimulating.This is one of those rare woodworking and design books that I find myself reading and looking thru just for the sheer enjoyment of it.The photos are impressive! Very nice.

My friend who is an amateur, but quite good, woodworker really likes this book. It is his second Greene & Greene woodworking book and he says both are really helpful and inspiring.

I have built Arts and Crafts style furniture for many years and have always loved the Greene and Greene style. This book gives some history and background on the style but it's real value is in the very detailed explanations of how to execute the details Greene and Greene. It's practical and well written. Where jigs are necessary they are described and photographed in detail. I have now purchased the plans for the author's bedside table and plan on making that when I get the half dozen pieces I am working on now finished. A fun book even if you never build anything.

O got this book to give me ideas on furniture I want to build for out house. I've read it twice and no doubt will refer to it for a long time. Good addition to my G&G library for ideas and inspiration.

If you are into woodworking and the Greene and Greene style, this is a great book on learning how to make some of the elements of Greene and Greene. I have made sever items using this book since I received it and everything has turned out like the picture in the book. Looking forward to get his second book coming out later this year.

Darrell is a master at this stuff. I wish I had even half of his talent. This book is great to look at and it has helped me on a couple of projects. I certainly can recommend it.
