I am a picky reader. I can't abide things that are clumsily written, dull, boring, formulaic, unconvincing, uninvolving. I loved this novel because it's none of the above. I admired the way the author seamlessly interwove the love stories of three couples in three different eras, in all their complex, bawdy, devoted glory. I give it a strong recommendation.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book despite initially disliking Holly. She grew on me as the book progressed and the historical characters were so well written that I could not put this book down. I found myself googling all the historical characters, places and events and was pleasantly surprised to find historically accurate facts. A job well done Ms.Cornick, I will be looking for your other books.

This book kept my interest from the first chapter. The mysterious items that follow throughout the past and present are well treated. I liked the characters from the past, and the present as well. Good story if you like books that go from the past to the future. Enough mystery to keep you reading for the conclusion.

This is about 3 stories at different eras, but only one is actually based in historical fact. The story in the present day is a mystery. The factual story is about the Winter Queen.

If you like historical fiction, suspense or romance, you will like this book. The interweaving of past and present time will keep you interested. You will feel the Winter Queen's emotions as your own and you will build your own image of Ashdown in your mind. The characters are well developed and it just takes you to another place. A book that you can get lost in is the best!

Great mystery although I have to admit as was more invested in the modern day characters than the ones in the past. Still really good. There is actually a book out about Elizabeth Stuart by Nancy Goldstone that I read before this one that gave it a lot of context. I highly recommend it if you are interested in the real story.

Not my norm but I quite enjoyed the different turns this book took. House of Shadows has romance & history mixed with modern day suspense making it a worthy read. I think readers of all genres will enjoy this story.

Being a military family means we're not living near either set of my child's grandparents. And at times it means Daddy is also away and my little man is missing his loved ones. It's hard to explain to a 3-year-old (or even younger) why his favorite people are not around all the time, and it is even harder to help them through their big emotions (and tantrums they lead to).But teaching a child to bond with far-away relatives with the help of a sweet children's book is a great parenting tip.I received a complimentary electronic copy of this book to enjoy and share with you.Nooni's Moon is such a sweet book and a great way to show little ones that a loved one is always thinking about them, even across the distance. First of all, I love the concept of the moon, since my child LOVES the moon. The story has a child and grandmother across time zones, where one is waking up, the other is going to bed. So they came up with a sweet way to send a message of love to each other, through the moon.The illustrations are just lovely and the concept is beautiful. Allowing a small child to embrace a connection with far away relatives through a special game is very powerful and helps build the child's self-esteem and emotional regulation.I would love to get my hands on a print of this book to more easily read and enjoy with my son.

I realize this is an award winner, but I found the story far too simplistic to even keep my 7 year old interested--or my 3-year old. I also noted the not-so-subtle political correctness in it and am fully against dragging kids into the volatile agendas of one particular group of people. The pictures were nice, so there's that but that is where the message of the author is meant to intrude on a child's mind. If a children's story can't be presented just for the entertainment, educational or uplifting message; and if the author is so off-centered they can't refrain from imposing their own political bias, no matter how subtle the imposition, on even a mere child, it's not a book I will review highly or share with anybody. The book is now part of the landfill.

We live overseas with two young children far from family. They miss their grandparents and this book shows a sweet way to feel connected to loved ones far away. I love that the book is multicultural as the main character Beanie lives in what appears to be a desert Middle Eastern country while her grandmother lives across the world. Beanie's mother has light skin and hair while her father has dark skin and hair. Her siblings, teacher, and grandmother show a range of skin colors. The illustrations are very cute. Great for anyone who lives far from loved ones, whether in a different country or just another state.

This is such a beautiful story! My family has spent a lot of time traveling around the United States and around the world too. Being able to travel and live abroad is a wonderful experience, but it can be very hard, especially with kids, when you are far away from your loved ones. Even with modern technology, being apart is tough. We used to use the moon too, usually as a comfortable 'friend' when we went some place new "Look! The moon came with us!", but we'd also talk to it and ask if it was watching over Grandma, or our cats back home when we traveled. Overall, poorly written and limited utility.The first half was an overview of the state of the art (when written, but I expected that with such fast moving technology) in 3D printing broadly. Unfortunately, it was written in a very stilted style that would not have passed a Freshman technical writing course. It used the "Tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, tell them what you told them," format, but badly. It went about four or five levels deep, but after the first pass through, mostly repeated what was covered in the overview, sometimes with the same words, no expansion. They used the same 8 or so examples over and over again. US Military developing deployable 3D printing capability, NASA printing structures using Lunar regolith, etc. The first time through was fine, but after the third or fourth time supposedly in more detail, but with no actual detail added, boring. And that from a working engineer who's eaten up deep technical matter most people find boring for 50+ years.Frankly, it seemed like the authors had 30-40 pages of real content they were instructed to stretch over 150 pages.The second half of the book was a different story. It was a good, broad overview of selecting, acquiring, building, calibrating and first prints from a home Rep Rap printer (what I wanted from the book). Little unnecessary repetition, good descriptions of pros and cons of decisions you'll need to make along the way, including the software and hardware. Nothing you can't find somewhere on the internet, but all in one place and easy to review again if needed. And a pretty good framework to hang the added detail you can find on the internet. If you are more comfortable with books, probably worth the price, if you are really fluent in internet info finding and synthesis, not so much.So, 1-2 stars for the first half (and last 20 pages), 4 stars for the portion on building a rep rap printer.

I gave this book 5 stars because I enjoyed reading it. For me it explained all the aspects of 3D printing in one place which allowed me to become familiar with the techniques, language, engineering and applications of 3D printing in a weekend. After reading this book I am confident about getting into and purchasing a 3D printer.My background is I am handy and computer literate. For me the information was straight forward and easy to comprehend. After reading this I think it will be similar to building a computer in the late 90s. Well maybe easier as the parts appear to be less proprietary. The author gave a very good break down of the build process over several chapters. I though it was well organized and provided good pictures and techniques of the 3D components. I haven't visited many sites or blogs on 3D printing so if you have been scouring the web for a few months you may have picked up the same general information as you will find in this book but because the authors have done this (make a 3D printer - also one is at the pinnacle of this technology ) I found their guidance to be exactly what I was looking for as a neophyte. I am no longer the neophyte I was 48 hours ago and can discuss arduino type boards from ramps to elefu-ra. Injectors like J-type, prusa and e3d and how the gear should be set up for feeding PLA or ABS.If you would like an exploration both historical and technical into 3D printing and are going to buy or build a 3D printer as I am - read this book. This is the only book I will read on the subject after this I will dive into the 3D open source community. Hope this review helps you.

This feels like an extended Wikipedia article. Most for Dummies books are enough to get you started with something, but this is more of a history lesson, with a fair amount of speculation mixed in. Nothing practical here.

Great book for history of 3d printing. I didn't give it 5 stars due to in my opinion should have been a book on how to actually print or really get into speed setting and extruder setups for best quality prints. It could have gone over what a good print looks like or what's happening and how to adjust for the problems you face as a beginner at 3d printing. I do understand that their are hundreds of different brands of printers but they are all trying to do the same thing. That is to make the best prints possible.

While not having enough information to make you an expert, it does have enough information to explain to you the fundamentals of 3d printing and the effects it will have on society and the world! If you would like a bit of background on 3d printing and materials, this book is perfect for you.

I just finished building my own 3D Printer from a kit when this book finally arrived at my door. I read it in about 3 days, highlighting all the important (or at least, important areas to me).This book helped me tremendously with calibrating my bed and extruder. Made Slic3r and Pronterface much more easy to understand and gave great tips on settings for different types of prints.Seriously, a great book to have in your 3D printing collection.A side note, this book does mention a bit about building 3D printers from kits. I built my Prusa i3 from the Makerfarm kit, which I was very surprised not to see mentioned in this book as it's an all-inclusive kit that really solves a lot of the guesswork. It's also a great way to learn the ins-and-outs of 3d printers so you can go on to build your own.

I thought that a time varying matrix diffeq, xdot = A(t)x, had an integrating factor iff the time-varying system matrix A(t) commuted with int(A(s): 0 -> t) for all t. Then the solution is x(t) = exp(int(A(s);0->t)x(0) For the rotation R, Omega clearly does not commute with its integral in this way. Is the closed form solution still valid? I don't know! It's obviously valid for small delta_t = t(k+1) - t(k), since then the relevant matrices are approximately constant.

First let me point out that the "error" mentioned by couple of reviewers are not errors. Perhaps the reviewers misunderstood or missed something.The NY reviewer wrote" dot{\bf{R}_{b2a}(t) = - \Omega \bf{R}_{b2a}(t)whic is fine. but then it is concluded that\bf{R}_{b2a}(t) = exp(-\int_{t0}^t \Omega dt) \bf{R}_{b2a}(t_0)which is wrong because $\Omega$ is a function of time. "Actually this last line is in fact correct. I am not sure why reviewer think there is a problem. Perhaps the dummy integration variable t in the integral should have beendenoted by a different letter, but I think this is understood to be the dummy variable and not related to independent variable t. At any rate this equations is perfectly correct.Also the "errors" pointed out by reviewers with title "Mixed Results" are not errors.Matrix multiplication representation of the cross product has the right sign per convention that it is representing angular velocity of "a" frame relative to b frame.Multiplying this by -1, would represent angular velocity of b frame relative to "a" frame.The mappings from the quaternions to the Euler angles (Chapter 2 equations 2.47 through 2.49) are all correct. Perhaps the reviewer uses a different convention for the signs relative to reference and rotating frame.The book itself is probably one of the better books if one is not afraid of mathematical rigor (of course Mathematical rigor itself is relative). It does a nice job of blending the inertial navigational with system theory and Kalman filtering methods.

Page 45 equation 2.60 is wrong. I write in latex form for those who read the book carefully.In the book it is given\dot{\bf{R}_{b2a}(t) = - \Omega \bf{R}_{b2a}(t)which is fine. But then it concludes that\bf{R}_{b2a}(t) = exp(-\int_{t0}^t \Omega dt) \bf{R}_{b2a}(t_0)which is wrong because $\Omega$ is a function of time.This mistake is propagated.I have used the book but I corrected the mistakes.Response to critic of this review (for the benefit of readers): The first thing you learn in linear system theory is thatif\[\dot{\bf x}(t) = A(t) {\bf x}(t)\] then\[{\bf x}(t) \ne e^{A(t)} {\bf x}_0\] unless $A(t)$ is constant,which both the authors and the critic are not paying attention to.

From what I had read, I had the impression that this book would be at a level I could understand with relative ease - not the case. I have now purchased an alternative.This is what happens when you only have a limited review capability before purchasing.

This is a great book for the student. It goes over the basics of GPS and inertial navigaion. I found the development of the equations and models of the systems invaluable. I have used this book as the basis of many useful functions for transforming from latitude/longitude/altitude to ECEF and others. Overall, a great book for the beginner, although, a bit weak on advanced topics.
