This is a true story of A TEENAGER CALLED NENE SAN (meaning Miss Nene) by the Japanese during World War ll in the Philippines. She was 15 years old when the Japanese invaded their country. She witnessed the BATAAN DEATH MARCH and the MANILA MASSACRE. She learned to speak Japanese language as taught to her by the family chauffeur of her grandparents before the war. Took her 42 searching for the family of the AMERICAN NAVY FLYER who was shot by the Japanese during the dogfight. She save the lives of the university professor and a young man from being executed. I highly recommend this book to everybody most especially to our students who are taking History class. It will intrigue readers both young and old. I am now 88 years old, and glad to share my stories to the World. I was that teenager who survived the starvation and cruelties of Japanese because I spoke Japanese. I was pressed into service as an interpreter for the Japanese and Americans during liberatiion.

Mrs. Resty Farmer describes the events in such great detail! This book deserves to be made into a movie one day!

Congratulations, my friend, for writting such good and interseting book! I throughly enjoyed reading about you and your family's life in the Phillines. I feel as if I know you better after reading both of your wonderful books!

Great red! Very well written. Facinating life in the Philippines during such a hisotric time. Thourghly enjoyed it! Read her first book Nene also a GREAT book.

We bought this book because Nene San lives in the same small town as us. We don't know her but the story is interesting but repetitive. We should have waited and bought a used copy. We get the feeling that things are repeated in the book in order to fill it up. We give this three stars because of the subject matter.

I found this book very enlightening!

This is a very interesting story about a young girl growing up in the Philippines and the events that transpired during World War II, under Japanese occupation. Fortunate to have learned the Japanese language from the family chauffeur, I believe young Nene San was instrumental in helping her family and others from harm during this terrible time in history. Also fascinating was the day Nene San received a simple phone call or "wrong number" from someone claiming to be a Japanese houseboy, only to discover later that he was in fact a high ranking Japanese Military Officer. Just proves to me that sometimes things happen in your life for a reason and how people you meet during your lifetime can play a significant role in a future event. I highly recommend this book and I hope this book receives all of the positive recognition that it deserves.

Resty Farmer is a good friend to everybody she meets. I know her personally and have seen what she has done to be able to write her books. She is such an inspiring woman. The book tells of her growing up and the horrible things she and the people endured during the occupation of the Japanese.Such a brave, strong, intelligent young woman. If possible be sure and read her first book.It is a very good story and I am sure that most would agree.
