This was one of the best Christian Suspense book that I have read in a very long time. Therese's book "Frozen Footprints" literally kept me on the edge of my seat. I did not want to put the book down. I actually read "After The Thaw" book by Therese first because It did show to be book no. two, so I read it first. After reading book two I looked on Amazon for other books by this author. I found that "Frozen Footprints" was book one. Even though I knew basically what happened with Charlene, Mac, and Clay I wanted to know the details of how it all started. The author goes into a lot of details some of which were pretty gruesome, but who doesn't like a great suspenseful book. I was not disappointed. That is all I will say. Read the books you will not be disappointed, but read them in order. ENJOY, I know I did.
I ordered "Frozen Footprints" on Amazon Kindle and was hooked from the first page. The novel more than lives up to its billing as a suspense novel.Charlene Perigard, and her brother, Maxwell, are eighteen-year-old twins and the grandchildren of an incredibly wealthy oil-baron. While their luxurious life-style shields them from all forms of material want, it comes at a terrible price: submitting to every demand of their power-hungry, over-controlling grandfather. That all changes when Max, the more rebellious twin, disappears. Charlene discovers that the grandfather received a ransom note threatening Max's life if the ransom is not paid. The self-absorbed grandfather has convinced himself that it's nothing more than elaborate scheme by Max to swindle a large sum of cash from him--and thereby gain his independence. And the grandfather will surrender neither his money nor his control over the twins. In desperation, Charlene decides to search for her brother on her own--and thereby launches a series of events that put both her and her brother in ever-increasing mortal danger. The suspense ratchets up page by page until it becomes so achingly taut that you wonder if either the reader or the characters can stand much more. There's not a dull moment as the action, the physical and emotional pain, and soul-searching moral challenges steadily increase. Just when the suspense is stretched to the breaking point, the author springs upon the reader an ending that is both surprising and satisfying. As an author of suspense, Ms. Heckenkamp does an admirable job of hooking the reader early and steadily reeling him in. But the novel succeeds on many other levels as well. The characters are very human and very believable: with their own faults, strenghts, beliefs, and justifications. Both Max and Charlene come across well as rather privileged, protected young people who--up 'til now--have never had to face material want, physical hardships, or serious challenges to their here-to-fore nominal beliefs. The grandfather, on the other hand, comes across as a modern pharisee who has all the outward trappings of religious faith and material success--but no heart. And the antagonist, ah the antagonist, is a wonderful piece of fictional work: a formerly religious man who has justified his warped vision of the world when he didn't get what he wanted. All the characters are complex and yet believable. In summary: "Frozen Footprints" is a fast-paced, entertaining read that presents a good moral message without every getting preachy. I highly recommend it!
This is my first time to read a book by Therese Heckenkamp. I love Christian fiction and have been looking for new authors with great stories. But also ones that include our failures, our frailness, our questions, and most importantly; our journey to finding God in the story. Which helps us to find God in our own stories. Although I am not of the Catholic faith, I am most definitely a person of faith. The story was suspenseful, gripping, heartbreaking. I love how she wove so much of all we struggle with in Charlene, Max, Clay, and even grandfather Perigard. I am eager to read the next book, and she is definitely on my list now of Christian fiction authors. Keep writing and touching hearts.
AWESOME! I am an 8th grade English Language Arts teacher. Each day I give some sort of book talk to try to peak the interest of the students I teach. Frozen Footprints has made it to the top of my book talk list! I have been searching and searching for great authors and have found them in short supply. Books for adolescents are being cranked out by the hundreds, but I have yet to find more than half a dozen authors with real substance and style and integrity. Therese Heckencamp is an author that I can recommend to my students without feeling that I have put the child's soul in mortal danger. Thank you Therese! Please keep writing, I can use your text as a mentor text for my students with a confidence that I am helping them with their composition, style and most importantly their content.
I have a busy schedule plus spend a lot of time on the computer (Facebook). I read Frozen Footprints in one day because, well, it is that kind of book. You have to read to see what happens. To be honest - I forgot that this was a Christian book as I get so many of them from Amazon. I realized that the book really included a lot about religion AND faith (which is way more important than any organized religion to me). The book shows you the good in people (Charlene was a good person and had a lot of good faith in people even her grandfather who didn't deserve any faith in my opinion) and it had the obvious bad people (Abner - evil incarnate) and the greedy (grandfather places money above love and family) and then the people in the middle (Clay - not evil but not good) - The story just went at a fast pace and you cried and were horrified at things that happen to the twins. To be honest - I thought the most horrendous act was what the grandfather did when the twins decided to speak up for Clay. I was a little let down that the ending did not tell you exactly what happened - but I think it is to let us deduce our own conclusion of the outcome of the trial.I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a very good mystery book that displays the real evil that exists in this world. Both the evil you can go to prison for (Abner) and the evil that exists and not much you can do except walk away (Grandpa).
